Shark Tank is a popular American reality television series that has been on the air since 2009. On the show, entrepreneurs pitch their business ideas to a panel of investors (“sharks”) in hopes of securing an investment for their company. The show has become known for showcasing innovative and creative ideas from ambitious entrepreneurs looking to make it big.
One such idea that made waves on Shark Tank was Sand Cloud, a beach-inspired lifestyle brand founded by three college friends who wanted to use their passion for surfing as inspiration to create something special.
Their mission was simple: they wanted to inspire people around the world while also making an impact through ocean conservation efforts. After appearing on Shark Tank in 2016, Sand Cloud has gone on to lead the way in sustainable fashion with its eco-friendly products and commitment to giving back 10% of profits towards protecting marine life and beaches around the world. This success story shows just how far one great idea can take you when you have enough motivation and dedication behind it!
How Sand Cloud Started?
The idea for Sand Cloud began in 2014 when co-founders Steven Ford, Tyler Farrer and Brandon Leibel had just finished college. During their final semester, the trio decided to find a way to give back while also pursuing their passion of surfing.
Their solution was an online store selling beach-inspired towels and other products that were ethically made and sourced. They chose the name “Sand Cloud” out of respect for the ocean and its many wonders, while also hoping to create a community that valued sustainability and giving back.
At first, they struggled to get the word out about their store, but eventually their hard work paid off as more and more people began to take notice. Sand Cloud started gaining traction, and it wasn’t long before they were ready to take their business to the next level.
Sand Cloud on Shark Tank
In 2016, Sand Cloud was invited to appear on Shark Tank and present their idea in front of the show’s panel of investors. There, the trio pitched their idea to the sharks and explained how they wanted to use their business as a platform for giving back.
The response from the panel was overwhelmingly positive, with several of the investors offering money if Sand Cloud met certain criteria. After some deliberation, Sand Cloud eventually accepted an offer from investor Mark Cuban for $300,000 in exchange for a 15% stake in the company.
