What strategies do you use to build and maintain positive relationships with clients?
John Gulius: It’s all about assessing the client’s needs and delivering what you’ve promised based on those needs. You need to establish a good relationship where it’s clear that you care about giving them the best solution, and you make sure you provide that. I think where some people blunder is they get too fixated on the “sell” rather than providing the best product or service. A sale isn’t going to mean much if they get a subpar experience, and then they don’t recommend you or leave a good review, which is vital for the business.
I always try to treat the client as if they’re a friend that needs a favor. Of course, I maintain that professional relationship, but I just approach it from the angle of, what can I do to make this right here? I put in the same effort that I would for someone close to me, and my clients appreciate that.
How do you assess lawn needs and care plans?
John Gulius: I usually start by doing a comprehensive analysis of the current state of the lawn, from soil quality to the type of grass, and I make careful note of any existing issues that need to be addressed. From there, I develop a personalized plan that includes fertilization, aeration, pest control, maintenance and upkeep. I prioritize sustainable practices and make sure the client is educated about all the treatments.
How do you typically coordinate treatment schedules and ensure that the treatments are applied effectively?
John Gulius: I use digital tools to coordinate treatment schedules and to make sure the application is done in a timely manner. I have a follow up schedule to provide inspections and assess the impact of treatments, and to make any necessary adjustments. I make sure to meet with the clients throughout and listen to any feedback or concerns they have.
How do you stay updated on industry trends?
John Gulius: I subscribe to several industry publications and attend different conferences. I also utilize some great online forums to stay up to date on emerging trends and best practices. It’s vital to continue to stay educated and curious, to strive to be better. It’s an ongoing learning process, but I want to be sure I’m offering the most effective, modern applications to my clients.
