APJ Abdul Kalam was an Indian scientist who served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. He was born in a Tamil Muslim family in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, and studied physics and aerospace engineering. He worked as a scientist and science administrator at the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) before becoming the President of India.
