The road for any leader is carved through experiences. It is experiences that shapes and develops a leader. One such leader who has shaped his leadership acumen through his 25 years of experience is Ninaad Mehta.
Exeleon Magazine caught up with this innovative leader all the way back from India in an exclusive interview. Through this, we learn about the journey of Ninaad Mehta and the experiences that made him accomplish what he has.
1. What led to the formation of Brindley Technologies? How did you come about with the idea?
Ninaad: I came up with the idea of Brindley Technologies 25 years ago when I was studying for my engineering degree at the Bombay University, India. My family has a long-standing history of business in a wide-array of fields. Looking at how the elders in my family did business, I learned many tips and tricks of the trade of doing business. I learned a lot about the implementation of technology while I was working with a couple of companies in the same domain over the last two decades. This insight of implementation was focused on the betterment of human-life and doing something out of the box; something different from what the existing players are doing. And so, finally one fine day, I decided to quit my job as a technology consultant and started my long-awaited venture i.e. my own technology consultancy firm.
2. Before forming Brindley, what was life like for Ninaad Mehta?
Ninaad: Before Brindley, I was working to gain more and more experience on how a software and software technology consulting works. With that, I started gaining insights into how the consulting business is done and managed. I had worked for more than 18 years as a technology consultant with many customers internationally, helming from countries like the US, UK, France, Mexico, Singapore, Hong Kong, India, China, Australia, and Japan, and other European and LATAM countries. These clients were also based in different industry verticals and domains. I had managed to encompass a rather vast portfolio of clientele and experience since each industry domain, and each client required personalized consulting. The client verticals that I have worked with includes banking, telecommunications, finance, insurance, manufacturing, newsprint, oil & gas, and energy, among many others.
3. What according to you makes for an effective leader?
Ninaad: According to me, a leader is someone who can maintain the intricate balance of satisfying the customer and giving enough space for your team members to perform their best. A leader is someone who can sell quality-based services to his or her customer and effectively get the work done from the team.
4. What has been the biggest driving factor for Brindley Technologies since incepting?
Ninaad: I think the biggest driving factor behind the company has to be the amount of experience and expertise that I have gained in this last two decades. Apart from that, I think having an international network that I was able to build over the years through an array of different customers and colleagues was also a key factor. Another important driving factor would definitely be references that I have received from my previous clients and colleagues.
5. What changes do you expect to see in the IT industry in the coming years?
Ninaad: The IT industry has gone through tremendous changes in the past few years. It has changed from Industry Policy 2.0 to Industry policy 4.0 now. There are many new technological innovations that have been introduced, which has connected the world and brought everyone closer.
The Internet of Things, Machine Learning, Data Science, enterprise mobility, robotics, content management, open source, and social media, to name a few are expected to provide impetus to the upcoming wave of changes in the tech world. One such big shift we will see in the next few years is the development of smart cities and usage of these technologies in building the same.
6. How do you encourage innovation in your company?
Ninaad: We have set up our innovation and customer experience centers across different countries. Aside from that, we are also partnering with some of the best universities in the US, India, and other countries. These universities are aiding us with some of the top respected scientists and other personnel in research and development of different technology-focused areas.
7. How has the journey been like for you in this 25 years?
Ninaad: The journey has been truly joyful. I have learned a lot in the past few decades, both as a technology consultant and as a traveler of the world. Meeting different people across the globe and working with them has surely added more to my knowledge than I ever thought was possible.
8. What has been the biggest roadblocks during this journey for Ninaad Mehta, both as a leader and for Brindley Technologies?
Ninaad: When I started my career, I always wanted to stand out and do something different. There was always a set roadmap on how I would achieve my vision. On the course of this roadmap, there were many ups and downs, many road blocks. The challenge was to overcome these roadblocks and keep moving ahead towards the goal.
When I started Brindley Technologies, the most challenging part was to find investors and convincing them to invest in the company. Along with that, finding customers was another hurdle which we have successfully catered to during this journey.
9. Where do you see Brindley stand in the coming years?
Ninaad: Our aim with Brindley Technologies is to make it one of the most respected brands in the technological sector through the good value that we bring into the society. We want to see every gadget, electronic device, and mobility using Brindley technology solutions, products, and services throughout different industry verticals across the globe.
10. Finally, what do you think is the most important trait for a leader?
Ninaad: I think that the most important trait of a leader is his unconditional belief in himself and his team.
