NVIDIA Wants AI Characters to Behave Like Real Players

NVIDIA has been pushing the envelope with its ACE (Avatar Cloud Engine) platform.

The project was originally designed to create conversational NPCs, but has since evolved into a system that produces autonomous AI characters that can understand situations, take action and respond like humans.

NVIDIA announced that these characters respond to commands, communicate naturally and make independent decisions during the game.

ACE also powers PUBG’s upcoming PUBG Ally. This AI teammate can share equipment, suggest tactics, drive vehicles, take on enemies and coordinate with players in real time. 

The plan is to create genuine companions that don’t sound or feel like programmed assistants. This could prove transformational for multiplayer games, helping new players learn the ropes while seasoned gamers enjoy a cooperative experience. 

Microsoft Is Using AI to Build Games Faster

AI is also transforming the process of game development. Microsoft recently unveiled Muse, an AI model it created together with Xbox studio Ninja Theory. 

Muse generates gameplay visuals and player actions so developers and studios can prototype ideas better. The technology can help design playable experiences and accelerate the typically arduous development process. 

In these times when the cost of game development is astronomically high, studios are turning to AI to eliminate production bottlenecks. These systems won’t replace developers, but will handle repetitive tasks, allowing artists, writers and designers to focus on creative work.
